The American Federation of Scientific Astrologers was founded May 4, 1938 at 11:38 a.m., and the name was later changed to American Federation of Astrologers. AFA's first headquarters, in Washington, DC, was purchased in the fall of 1950. This building was sold in 1975, and the headquarters was moved to Tempe, Arizona, where it occupies a 5,000 sq. ft. building owned by AFA that also houses the organization’s extensive library of books and periodicals. The purposes of the American Federation of Astrologers are education, research, cooperation, and progress.
AFAN’s global mission is to enhance, protect, and validate the important role astrologers and astrology have in today’s society.
Media accountability and public information are top priority, on-going projects for AFAN. Through Media Watch AFAN monitors the press and responds, correcting inaccurate or biased print and electronic media accounts.
We vigorously network people with helpful resources and material, including legal information, and the AFAN Legal Information Kit. AFAN’s Legal Information Committee has been extraordinarily successful in changing laws restrictive to the practice of astrology.
